Is theology Christian?
“Theology” comes from greek words that mean approximately “god” and “study,” so just as biology is the study of living things, theology is the study of diety. Typically, when speaking of an individual, theology refers to what that person believes about (God/god/gods…). When speaking about the theology of a religion, people are typically referring to what that religion teaches about diety/God/god/gods…. As a course of study, theology may cover a wide variety of beliefs about God – from atheism (a belief that there is no God) to the belief that the self is God. Some have said that there are as many different theologies as there are people (since it is difficult to find two people who absolutely agree on every aspect of “God” and the implications of what that means). I suppose there might even be more, since some people dream up several options… So, the short answer is: no.
