Is the XLi backward compatible with the XL-DC?

The XLi is functionally compatible with XL-DC, and all the commands that control XL-DC (F-commands) are the same. But due to the XLi new architecture and all the added features and benefits, it is not possible to be backward compatible with interface software. If you have software written that interfaces with the XL-DC you have to modify it for the XLi, and take advantage of all the new features, especially using the new Network port.
