Is the water safe to drink?

In the hotels and most restaurants, you will get purified water. I would not drink the water from a private home or condo, unless you know there is a purification system installed. The water here is very pure, but the distribution system is not so perfect. Buy bottled water. Why not be completely safe!

The tap water is safe to drink in most parts of Patagonia. To be sure, ask your tour leader or the hotel/ restaurant staff. Bottled water is readily available as well if desired.

Yes. Water quality is monitored and controlled by the government water company. In some remote places there may be private wells that are not monitored. However, all tourist areas have monitored and treated water. Costa Ricans are aware of visitors’ worries and bottled water is readily available, if you prefer.

Bottled water is provided by Shades of Africa during game drives, and available for purchase at lodges and restaurants.

Your guide will be in charge of all your water needs. He will make sure all water is boiled and treated with iodine. Iodine is 100% effective in killing the bacteria in water.
