Is the water lily diciduous or evergreen,Is it native to Australia?

There are lots of waterlilies native to Australia plus a few introduced ones. The concepts of evergreen and deciduous are a bit difficult to apply to a waterlily. Most species are perennials with a large rhizome that stores food so that the plants can survive the dry season when the waterholes and lakes in tropical Australia dry up. So they do lose their leaves but it is a survival strategy for the dry season.
