Is the voice transmitted over the RF network?
No, speech synthesis and speech recognition is carried out on the Talkman unit, and only data is transmitted over the RF network. If voice were transmitted over the network, the bandwidth would restrict the number of users and high performance voice servers would be required. Because the Talkman system transmits only data and not voice, it does not suffer from these limitations.
Speech recognition and synthesis is performed on the portable device itself only the instructions themselves are transmitted by RF. This greatly reduces the burden on the network, and allows for the possibility of maintaining the servers remotely as well as increasing the number of simultaneous users that can be sustained by a given network.
