Is the vertical split hull building system really faster?
One only has to look at it logically to see the advantages, with hundreds of hours building time being saved by avoiding duplicate work. A good demonstration of this was the development time for the original F-24 Mk I and the F-31 around 1991. Corsair Marine’s then management decided to use the traditional hull and separate deck system for building the Mk I F-24 rather than the then very new vertical split method. Around the same period, the F-31 was developed independently in Australia and used the recommended vertical system, building both hull and deck simultaneously. The much larger F-31 was built in around the same time, and development actually cost 30 to 40% less than the smaller F-24. The next advance was vertical foam strips, and one experienced builder who has built both an F-9A with longitudinal strips, then an F-82R with vertical stripped foam, and then an F-9R, has confirmed that the vertical foam system is considerably faster again. Note that one can still build an F-41 u
