Absolutely. They dont release new movies on tape any more- all you can get now is blank tapes, which believe it or not are still available. Some companies still make VCRS but most these days only still make DVD/VCR combo units. VCRs have a charm that will never be matched. I’ll never forget the sound of the machine rewinding the tape. However, don’t forget-you can always record a movie that’s on TV! Even after the DTV trantition, you could just leave a digital tuner hooked up and just remember to leave it on the channel that you want to record from-so don’t despair! Many companies are actually still making RECORD PLAYERS so I believe that for many years to come SOMEONE will continue to make VCRs and blank tapes. However, since it’s somewhat of a novelty to even have a VCR any more you’ll find that the majority of “modern” VCRs (which sounds like an oxymoron 🙂 are strictly “bargain basement” items- so don’t think that an $80 wal-mart special is going to last long-a well built VCR will
