Is the USA a true democracy?

Technically, the USA is not a “true” democracy. I’m not quite sure what it is, though. I’ve heard “Democratic Republic,” “Representative government,” and other terminology I cannot remember at the moment. But no, of course it is not a democracy in the full meaning of the word. If it really was a democracy, then every single resident’s opinion would have to be asked, and everything really would have to go under a popular majority vote, which is very chaotic and hard to control or keep track of, especially in a nation as large as the USA. I am not even sure if it is possible to do that, or even advisable. After all, can you trust the voters that much? Looking back at Yahoo! Could you really trust the fate of our nation to ignorant, biased people that only want their side to win? If the quality of our citizens was a little better, then maybe I’d be all for a majority vote on most is
