• If you have a dialup connection at home, this will be too slow to use the VPN. Try using Mulberry & the authenticated proxy service instead. • If you have broadband at home, the VPN will probably work, but certain home routers (used to share a broadband connection) are incompatible with the PPTP protocol used. Upgrading the firmware on the router often helps. • If you move a laptop between a wireless hotspot at the University and a wireless network elsewhere, in order to use the University’s wireless network you need to make sure your system is set to ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ (DHCP). This is the normal setting used on most other networks – but if your other network requires a static IP address set make a note of it and then use the Alternate configuration to swap between the two of them.
