The United States government has regulatory bodies like the SEC and the FTC, which work very hard to protect the consumer, or individual investor from being overhyped with puffery. Still, this same government uses public-relations, promotions, and puffery constantly in order to project its power onto the people, and to see its policies through to fruition. Take for instance, the government’s pledge and push to prop up the alternative energy sector, and green industries. Our government has gone out of the way to sign on to climate change legislation such as “Cap and Trade” as well as put forth billions of dollars in the stimulus package for alternative energy projects; all the while telling us that this will increase jobs, protect us from foreign oil price gouging, and make our nation safer.
