Is the UK electorate happy that the next election is descending into a smear campaign against party leaders?
No – I would much rather have a decent choice in the election reflecting the left as well as the right wing of politics. There is no alternative for the media than to make this into a presidential style campaign based on personalities and not policies, because all three main parties stand for exactly the same thing – cuts and job losses. The only debate between Tories and Labour is when cuts are going to be made, not IF they are needed at all. The only alternative is for us to fight back ourselves – through trade unions and by building a new left wing party.
