Is the Tour of Shakespeares Globe Theatre for Two experience good value at £30?
I’ve taken the Globe tour twice, each time so that a visitor to London could have a look, and I think it’s worth the money. The first time I went, I didn’t know how much there is to see before you even get to the tour, so allow plenty of time — they’ve got exhibits about the Globe in Shakespeare’s time and how plays were put on then, as well as the building of the reproduction. Then there’s the tour itself, which was great, with the added bonus that if they’re rehearsing a play and the director calls for quiet, you have to sit where you are quietly until the scene is over, which means you get to see a bit of the play for free–and more about how plays are put together. The first time I was there, they were rehearsing King Lear. A fight choreographer was showing the actors how to move during a fight scene, and then we had to sit and be quiet while they ran through the scene.
