Is the thalamic reticular nucleus an attentional filter?

0

In our studies of the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), our aim has been to understand how the brain might solve the problem of selection of inputs. Our intention is to understand how and why this might sometimes fail: from errors arising from normal lapses of attention, to functional pathologies of attention arising from brain dysfunction or disease. This project will utilise a multidisciplinary approach employing behavioural, immunocytochemical and electrophysiological techniques to explore the cognitive and attentional functions of the TRN.
