Is the technology widespread? How can women find a center that does digital mammography?
Digital technology makes up only about 8% of the total units in use in the U.S. The market is supposed to more than double by 2009 to $450 million, according to data by Millennium Research Group. Manufacturers are: General Electric, Fischer Imaging Corp., Hologic Inc., Siemens AG and Fuji Medical Systems. There is still no independent site to assist in locating a center using digital mammography. Women should contact the makers of digital mammography directly at this point. Note: The digital-mammography study and General Electric provided information for this FAQ.
