Is the technique Dr. Myers uses different, and, if so, how?
The technique Dr. Myers uses is called the anterior approach. Surgical approaches are the way you get into the hip joint to insert the hip prostheses. There are several different approaches, most commonly, anterolateral, posterior and anterior. The anterior approach is a way to perform a total hip replacement by making an incision in the front of the leg and going down between muscles to get to the joint. No muscles are cut across during this surgery, which allows for less muscle damage, a smaller incision, and most importantly, a faster recovery and return to normal life activities than the other approaches.
