Is the suns positioning different from year to year?
The sun moves about 1 degree in the sky over about 70 years, due to the slight wobble in the Earth’s rotation. This is called Precession of the Equinoxes because, over a ~26,000 year period, the sun will eventually rise against every constellation for every equinox (and solstice). This explains what is behind the song that goes “this is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius” because the spring equinox sun will eventually be in the constellation of Aquarius (it’s in Pisces now). This is also partially behind the whole “world will end in 2012” hysteria–too long to get into now, but I did a 2-hour talk on it last week so all this is fresh in my mind. This is a more technical and complicated explanation on Wikipedia if you want more information. You have a pretty good eye if you can notice such a small change in the sun’s position!
