Is the Spanish language inferior to the Portuguese language?
You cannot rank languages by their forms or peculiarities. If you are inclined to make subjective judgements of this sort, you can, I suppose, rate then by prestige (e.g. place rightwing Purist Greek above the leftist Demotic form, or Norwegian in its more urban Riksmal variety above the more rustic Landsmal, or if you are a super-patriotic Dutchman you might wish to rank the Dutch of Amsterdam over the Flemish of Antwerp or the Afrikaans of the Transvaal. And if you are an Anglophone your ranking of, e.g. the Midwestern, London, Edinburgh, Cape Town, Dublin, Mumbai, Melbourne or Christchurch varieties of English will naturally depend on where lie your political loyalties. But your choice will say far more about you than about the language or dialect you prefer. You have not listed all the differences between Spanish and Portuguese: the Spanish use of the pluperfect as a subjunctive, the Portuguese retention of the historically earlier genders of the words for “tree,” “voyage,” etc. Sp
