Is the Sound of Music currently on Broadway?
No, it’s not on Broadway and it’s about to (if it hasn’t already) close on the West End. MTI doesn’t hold the rights for SOM, they’re held by the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organisation (strangely enough, given that the show is BY Rodgers and Hammerstein) which you can find at www.rnh.com – there’s loads of info there. As to the cost, without knowing the size of the theatre, how many performances you plan to do, how much you’ll be charging for tickets etc etc, it’s impossible to guess at royalty costs. You may also find that because the show is currently on in Canada (Toronto, I think) you may not get the rights.
