Is the solid rock shown on plans in the general summary acceptable to use for the granular embankment?
The rock on the project is argillaceous. This material is generally classified as Non-Durable Shale Class I. Although rock from roadway excavation can be classified as Granular Embankment, it must be less than 5% shale and durable material. The rock found on the project has a much higher shale content and is classified as non-durable.
