Is the slogan « Belgium Beer country » exaggerated or is it correct ?
… This slogan is correct. But the Belgian brewers have to make sure that they continue to deserve this recognition. Until the beginning of the eighties, breweries were closing their doors one by one. The tide turned thanks to the rise of new breweries. The Achouffe brewery is such an example and they really have had their breakthrough by now. More recently, the small brewery De Landtsheer is worth mentioning. Manu De Landtsheer established a brewery on the site where his grandfather had closed down the family brewery. This regeneration was even linked to a new beer type. It makes me smile when I realise that very close to this brewery, there is another one brewing a similar new type of beer. I find the commercial battle between brewery De Landtsheer and brewery Bosteels “funny” and “unique”!
