I have also seen the “Dying Rooms” and was devastated by such callous disregard for the lifes of children. From my understanding, conditions have improved in most orphanages in China. As much as people dislike international adoption, in this case it has had many positive effects. It helped bring in more International scrutiny of the plights of these children. Also China has a very stable, well regulated international program. A good portion of the money international adoptive parents pay to adopt in China goes to the orphanage which cared for the child. I personnally know several families who have taken their adopted children back to see their orphanages years after the adoption. Most have come back saying that the orphanage has improved vastly from when their children came home. Most children adopted from China 10 or 15 years ago came home severely malnourished, often with ligature marks on wrists and ankles from having been tied in cribs.
