Is the SilentDrive compatible with removable hard drive caddies?

0

Unfortunately the SilentDrive will not work with hard drive caddies, because both products are designed to enclose a standard hard drive, and in doing so, increase the overall size of the drive so that it no longer fits into a 3.5 inch bay, but instead needs a 5.25 inch bay. Therefore the customer must decide whether it is more important to have nearly silent hard drives, or easily removable hard drives, but not both. If it is essential to have quiet-running drives which are also removable, then perhaps the best compromise would be to select a PC case which uses drive rails instead of screws to hold 5.25 inch drives in, so that the SilentDrive(s) can be removed relatively easily. In doing this, however, the IDE cable would need to be plugged and unplugged from the motherboard, and we would recommend the use of a Wye power splitter cable so that the power to the enclosed drive could be disconnected easily, rather than the SilentDrive having to be opened up every time it is removed.
