Is the rottweiler a good family pet?
yes, be concerned enough to not do it. A lot of people will give you annecdotal stories of how the ones they know are sweet and kind etc. These are true. But what you care about is the probability that you will get the dog that despite being raised kindly by you from a pup, still has issues that it cannot overcome and snaps at the wrong time and harms your kids. To make the decision about this, you need real data, not annecdotes. Look no further than the insurance institute. they compile data on the risk of dogs injuring humans, by breed. Pit bulls are number 1, Rottweilers are #2. Far down the list of frequency of incidents are Huskies at #3. Yes, the results may be skewed because a lot of drug people pick pit bulls and Rotts and do a crappy job of raising them, or even train them to be aggressive. But the fact remains that these dogs are selected for aggressiveness because it is bred into them on purpose. Get a german shepard if you want a tough looking dog that is good with kids.
