Is the Righteous Zeal move mandatory? What is a Massacre result?

Yes, and No… This one is not easily answered. RZ states that a unit which passes its morale check “must move towards the nearest enemy unit”, but there is much disagreement over whether the “must” in the above quote applies just to “move” or to “move towards”, meaning that they can only go in that direction. However, there is a rather simple fix: and RZ move is a consolidation move, and such moves are “up to d6 inches”. Since the “up to” indicates that you can control how far the unit moves, you can always opt to move zero inches. If an opponent has issue with this, and tells you that you “must move”, then a simple 1/16th” move towards the nearest enemy unit ought to suffice. Remember that a unit that moved due to Zeal doesn’t count as having moved in the next turn, so it won’t affect the ability of your heavy weapons to fire.
