Is the refinishing process smelly?

There is some odor associated with the preparation process though most people don’t find it objectionable. By far, the most odor is generated from the actual coating application. It is for this reason that we always install ventilation equipment during the spraying process. If there is a window available in the bathroom the vent unit is usually installed in the window. If no window is available, a unit will be installed in the bathroom doorway, and a flexible hose run out a nearby window. After the refinishing is completed, we will remove our ventilation unit and turn on the bathroom exhaust fan, if present. If there is a vent fan in the bathroom, there should be no substantial odor. If there is no bathroom vent fan, some odor is likely that first evening, but will be dissipated by morning. Keep in mind that the spray mist and virtually all of the solvents used in the coating will be vented outside during the spraying process, with some odor remaining from the curing coating. [Back To
