Is the red snapper season closed?
Red snapper fishing is regulated by the state within the first 9 nautical miles from shore. That season is not closed. Regulations for fishing within state waters are found on this site in the size and possession limits section. Red snapper fishing is regulated by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) out beyond 9 nautical miles (also called federal waters). The red snapper season in federal waters is set each year, but for several years it has been open from April 21 to October 31 and we expect that to continue.
