Yes. Most of your original PS One games will work with the PS2. Depending on which game you put in the PS2, the graphics and loading time can be improved by accessing the PS2’s hardware menu and by selecting “smooth” and “fast”. Games like Final Fantasy 7, which have prerendered backgrounds, will have little affect since they are obviously prerendered and aren’t created in real time. This is not the case during battle scenes which don’t have prerendered backgrounds.
