No. The UPN may also be on the product packaging label. However, for some products it can be difficult to identify the correct UPN on the packaging barcode and some labelers do not bar code the UPN in the format needed for electronic claims processing. In addition, the packaging barcode does not include the UPN qualifier needed for claims processing. Because of this, it is very important that providers submit the UPN and UPN qualifier as listed in the provider manual on the claim for contracted medical supplies.
