Is the proposed Amendment 48 a reminder that society must be steadfast in its opposition to religious bigots?
Not all of us live in Colorado (let alone the US) so you might have wanted to note in your “question” that this is a proposed amendment to the Colorado state constitution. If I were a resident of Colorado, I would indeed vote no on this proposition NOT because I’m necessarily pro-choice, but because bestowing human rights on a single cell is not only laugh out loud foolish, but potentially dangerous. I hate abortion, I wish it wasn’t legal, and if I were a woman I doubt I would ever exercise such a choice HOWEVER, extending HUMAN rights to something that does not even have a single neural or glial cell is a horribly slippery slope. This would arguably cause the incarceration of research fellows working on embryonic stem cells, cause massive civil, wrongful death, and possibly criminal suits against doctors for any procedure that resulted in a difficulty and subsequently a miscarriage (because this would then classify negligent miscarriage as HOMICIDE).
