Is the priority of Argentina right now to win the Copa instead of building for the Mundial?
Ariel – The Argentine priority is to win the Copa and end so many years of drought. The team last won the Copa America in 1993, which was the last big tournament won; besides this, the Copa is being played at home and failure is not an option. We would have to see what would happen if Batista didn’t bring back the title – what is clear though is that the Copa America is the immediate priority. What is your opinion of the game being played in Qatar rather than Brazil or Argentina? Andre – It’s a money-based decision that takes the Selecao further away from their fans. Brazilians are becoming more and more disconnected to the Selecao, and one of the factors that help that process is the fact that Brazil hardly plays in their home soil any more. Nowadays, the fans only cheer with passion when the World Cup comes. Ariel – It is an economic decision. Certain contracts must be honoured by the AFA, and for this reason many friendlies are played over the year in different places of the world.
