Rod Liddle was given the opportunity to prove what he claimed as fact (not opinion) in his blog and he couldn’t substantiate the claim that the overwhelming majority of crime committed in the capital was committed by members of the Afro Caribbean community. It may well be committed by young black men – but they may not be Afro Caribbean and that is where he made his mistake – and where you cannot claim that Tony Blair agrees with him. It may be a technicality, but if you were to refer to all evil committed by white people as being committed by the Welsh – I would imagine anybody who is Welsh would be p1ssed off. If you are writing something which may be seen as contentious you had better get your facts 100% right – in this case Rod Liddle didn’t. In terms of what Bonnie Greer said you have every right to complain and then she would have to substantiate her claims – shouldn’t be too difficult about football hooligans but the rest may be slightly harder to prove.
