The Port Phillip Bay Environmental Management Plan was approved by the Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts on 5 February 2008. As a result, the Port of Melbourne Corporation announced on the same day that the Channel Deepening Project will commence on or after 7 am on Thursday 7 February 2008.
