Is the pope an agnostic evolutionist?
How does one’s belief in evolution affect their religious beliefs? Francis Collins, the leader of the Human Genome Project and a firm believer in the FACT of evolution, is an outspoken evangelical Christian, and other famous evolutionary biologists such as Theodore Dobzhansky were also Christians. While the media seems to enjoy focusing on the absurd comments made by fundamentalist, ignorant, and clueless Christians, there are many devout Christians (especially Anglicans and Catholics) who are open minded and accepting of the FACT of evolution, including molecular biophysicist and Anglican theologican, Alister McGrath, and the former Bishop of Oxford, Richard Harries. Pope John Paul II was quoted as saying, “New findings lead us toward the recognition of evolution as more than an hypothesis.” I don’t quite understand how that leads to agnosticism.
