Is the Pimsleur Approach any good?

Don’t listen to any claims that anything is going to work quickly and easily, but Pimsleur is a good program, especially if you’re starting out and learning a language similar to English (mostly Romance languages, Germanic Languages, etc)… It’s not the best approach for languages like Chinese or Swahili, which have little in common with English and require more grammar and writing work. Pimsleur is good if you want to learn to speak in basic sentences of a language but not if you want to be fluent or to write and read the language, unless you combine it with other methods and resources. I think that Rosetta Stone is a better program as it is more well-rounded but it still isn’t ideal with languages like Chinese where you’ll want to learn grammar and writing techniques the program might not cover.
