IS THE PERSONAL DATA ERASED FROM THE PHONES?
The information below explains our personal data erasure policy: • For the majority of phones, Shelter Alliance utilizes “flashing” software, manufacturer reset codes, or manual resetting processes to erase personal data. • For some phones, Shelter Alliance utilizes selected refurbishment companies to erase personal data. These companies specialize in the refurbishment of specific models. • Phones without “re-use” value are shredded and smelted through an environmentally responsible metals refining process. The personal data is erased through the destruction of the phone. Furthermore: • All “SIM Cards” that contain personal data are destroyed by Shelter Alliance. • If we cannot access the memory (e.g. phone cannot be turned on, broken screen, etc.), the phone will be sold for parts to be used in the refurbishment process. • Industry fact: In order for a “retired” phone to e re-used, various country and operator codes MUST be programmed into the phones.
