Is the peace between Israel and Jordan plus Egypt disingenuous?
I’m an Egyptian, and let me tell you that most Egyptians, Arabs, and Muslims in general are excrement personified. This is why we have dictatorships in place, to keep us from sinking into the mucky landslide of a populist Islamist government. If Egypt was a democracy it would have medieval Shariah law, an endless state of war with Israel, debt slavery to Russia for indefinite militarizing we can’t afford, a stagnant economy, and the lot of women and the Coptic minority would be even more miserable. To the average Muslim, this is “progress.” Israel is our neighbor, the most competitive economy in the region, we are a developing country, and we have had peaceful relations for almost 40 years. Expanding commercial ties and cooperation in development would help us greatly. Arab economies don’t have much to offer Israel anyway.
