Is the pathological lying and cheating of this man a personality disorder?

He doesn’t necessarily have a personality disorder. Many people act in such ways (creating a fantasy life) to escape so-to-speak because they lack self-confidence and look for any possible way to boost what self-esteem they have. With extensive counseling and some serious life evaluation maybe he will commit but I highly doubt he will commit any time soon. . . It sounds as though he does not want to accept the fact that he is forty years old.

He’s just a liar and a cheat why does it have to be a personality disorder. Is it to make you feel less foolish (and by the way I don’t think you should feel foolish but he has rather made a monkey out of you) If you give it a lable you take away some of the responsibility. This man lives the life he chooses. He chooses to lie and cheat to make up for an inadequate personality – itis not a disorder.
