Yes, the outer casing is made from painted steel and will withstand general rainfall and sunlight. However we would recommend as part of the general maintenance of the whole system that it is periodically treated for rust and anti-corrosion. If you are in an area where the air has a higher salt content then we suggest that a higher level of maintenance is carried out to increase the life of the casing.
