Is the organizational design of the URI different from other international not-for-profit organizations?
While the vision and purpose of the URI resemble like-minded organizations, its organizational design is different than most other not for profit organizations. URI principles set up a de-centralized governance structure. This means that the URI is committed to holding power at the local level and to distributing decision-making power to all parts of the organization. In the URI , authority and responsibility for governance is invested in a process of shared decision-making among GC trustees, regional and hub staff and membership. In the early years of the URI , shared decision-making structures are being developed that allow for appropriate shared-decision making procedures for each part of the URI . The Global Council makes decisions that affect the whole URI. Hub staff and regional staff, including the Executive Director, make decisions using processes that engage people who are affected by the decisions and that are in accord with the policies and guidance given by the Global Counc
