Is the North Carolina Information Highway a public network or a private network?
The NCIH is part of the public-switched network. It is owned and operated by the state’s telecommunications providers (the phone companies), just as the current voice network is. State government will be the first customer to use the NCIH and has been a key partner in planning and implementation. Other technologies, such as cable, satellite and wireless will be inter-operable with this network.
