Is the New Version of Family Tree Maker Available for Windows 3.1?
No. Family Tree Maker 5.0 and higher are only available for Windows 95/98. We constantly strive to improve Family Tree Maker. Starting with version 5.0, we realized that many of the features that have been requested by users would not perform adequately in Windows 3.1. By supporting Windows 3.1 we would be unable to release a program that meets both our high quality standards and our customers’ high expectations. The computer industry is in a constant process of evolution. Windows 3.1 has been updated with Windows 95 and Windows 98, and soon Windows 2000, and will eventually be phased out. In fact, Microsoft has stopped supporting it. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause but we feel that this is a natural progressive step that will allow us to continue to deliver high quality software to our customers.
