Is the new field spectral_clear_indicator a indicator for cloud-free FOV in the new L1B AIRS product?

A. The spectral_clear_indicator is one of the best clear indicator for AIRS. Many people use this or slightly modified version of this indicator to detect clear footprints. However there are indications that some spectral clear footprints are contaminated by thin cirrus and/or scattered low cloud. It is known that spectral_clear_indicator works better over ocean footprints.
