Is the new European LCA reference format also foreseen for use in e.g. environmental product declaration (EPD)?
The focus of the Platform is LCA. This will fully support the underlying LCAs conducted in the context of EPDs, ecodesign, ecolabels, and other applications. Additional requirements beyond the LCA studies that are application-specific will not be addressed in the foreseen activities, such as the formats for disseminating information in the form of ecolabels, EPDs, etc. The development of the first version of the new reference LCA format for the ELCD database however already considered potential conflicts with EPD format needs. The further development of the ELCD format and of the EPD format development and requirements, which takes place at CEN, will be harmonised in order to have compatible formats and methods.
