Answer Hello Serge Personally I believe the movie was made basically as an environmental warning just as The Day the Earth stood Still was one of a nuclear warning to mankind. In terms of a connection to mythology, which I have also studied for a few years, I can only think of cannibalism, reincarnation, death & resurrection tales etc. which can be found in many of the legends and myths, as you mentioned in The Epic of Gilgamesh/Humbaba, the legend of Beowulf and other such tales.
