Is the movie “Gilda” (1946) film noir?
Film Noir is usually defined by several elements; crime, characters facing a moral dilemma, post World War 2 preoccupation with death, lead characters losing the will to live, femme fatale (sexy, bad girl). Not all noir films have all these element, but most do. I’d say, Gilda is definitely Film Noir. Rita Hayworth’s performance in the title role is considered by most to be one of, if not “the”, best femme fatales. I’d recommend Out of the Past (1947) – my favorite Noir, with Jane Greer as a great femme fatale. ================================== Wikipedia has a great Film Noir page: http://en.wikipedia.
