Is the Millennium Assessment a project of the World Resources Institute?

No. WRI served as the interim secretariat for the MA to facilitate the work of the Steering Committee and will continue in this role until the new secretariat arrangement is set up (approximately September 2001). WRI, UNDP, UNEP, and the World Bank each raised funds to support the work of the interim secretariat. WRI coordinated two activities linked to the work of the Steering Committee: (1) The Pilot Analysis of Global Ecosystems (a 1-year collaborative study of conditions of global ecosystems designed to help lay the groundwork for the MA); and, (2) World Resources 2000-2001 a report of UNDP, UNEP, World Bank, and WRI which focuses on the importance of ecosystem goods and services for human development. Once the new MA secretariat arrangement is established, WRI, in partnership with the Meridian Institute, will continue to be involved in the Assessment as coordinator of the Outreach and Communications committee.
