EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Digital clocks scattered around Michigan State’s football training facility are counting down the hours to Saturday’s season-opening kickoff against visiting Montana State. The Spartans say they are taking their first-ever game against a Football Championship Series squad seriously – and history indicates they should. Michigan State fans still take pleasure in poking fun at Michigan for losing to FCS powerhouse Appalachian State in 2007. Montana State, meanwhile, beat Colorado in 2006 and hung tough with Minnesota last season before falling 35-23. Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones said he knew enough about the Bobcats to be wary. “Montana State is going to be a good team,” said Jones, the Big Ten’s preseason defensive player of the year. “They’re going to give us their best shot.
