Closure of PPF ACCOUNT proceeds not taxable. Your wife can have ppf account if she has independent source of income she will get tax benefit. If not it is better to invest in Bank deposits as the rates are now higher.

The maturity amount of PPF is not taxable. Your wife(housewife) can also open a PPF account.
