Is the LOVEMARK better than an ideal cut, and/or how does it compare to an AGS Triple Zero?
Technically, ideal cut is like a brand name for diamonds that have defined limits for various measurements of the diamond, and are typically accompanied by an AGS certificate. The ideal cut is no longer thought of as a single set of measurements as defined in Tolkowskys original theory, but is a concept based on a set of variant ranges. Bearing that in mind, recent research suggests that the best cut is a matter of opinion. William Boyajian, president of G.I.A., said in the Fall 1998 issue of Gems and Gemology, although it is not GIAs role to discredit the role of the ideal cut, on the basis of our research to date we cannot recommend its use in modern times. That said, a diamonds beauty is determined by the amount of light returned to the observer and what the cut of the diamond does with that light. Four factors: brilliance (white light returned to the observer), fire (refraction or the rainbow effect), scintillation (sparkle), and efficiency (the even distribution of the light over
