Is the Leica V-Lux 1 a good camera?

I love the fact that it has the red badge, can shoot in RAW and has a mechanically operated zoom. The Panasonic version of this camera, the DMC-FZ50, has terrible noise control but my understanding is that Leica’s algorithms are not quite so heavy handed. It has notoriously bad auto white balance and I verified that by looking at pix at flickr, however that is no big deal. No decent photographer would ever use Auto WB anyway. Set you WB for the situation or shoot in RAW. Since you are interested in Leica’s I’d bet you make image quality a priority…so you will be shooting in RAW anyway. If I was in the market for a simple Point & Shoot camera with a serious lens I would have no problem buying the Leica V-Lux 1.
